Sterling Alternator Protection Device for 12V Alternators
The Sterling Alternator Protection Device (APD) for 12V alternators is designed to safeguard your alternator and regulator from harmful voltage spikes. When a break in the charging cable causes current to drop to zero, voltage can surge beyond 16.5V, potentially reaching dangerous levels. The APD activates with a small resistive load to help absorb and reduce this voltage spike, preventing damage to critical components. While extreme surges may damage the APD itself, it serves its purpose by protecting your alternator and regulator from costly failure.
